Washburn Recreation Department

Washburn Civic Center

Located at 3 Bayfield Street, the DuPont Civic Center has been the heart of the social life of the community for most of the last century. Constructed by the DuPont corporation as a social center for the employees of its nearby Barksdale Works, the center was given as a gift to the city in 1964. The center contains offices of the City's recreation department, teen center, meeting space for senior citizens and civic groups and a gymnasium.

Do You Have a Special Talent or Hobby?

Do you have an interesting hobby or special interest that you would like to share with the community? People just like you have started new and interesting classes. Department Mission Statement

The mission of the Washburn Recreation Department is to provide community programs to enrich the mind, body, and spirit.

Recreation Department programs and services encourage a high quality of life for all residents regardless of economic background or racial heritage. Washburn Recreation Department strives to provide diverse programs and services within a clean and safe environment.

The goal of the Recreation Department is user satisfaction. Communication between the service user and the provider is encouraged. The Recreation Department responds to citizens concerns and continually strives to improve upon services.

You Snooze, You Lose.

Nothing cancels a good class quicker than everyone waiting till the last minute to register. If there are not enough participants by a certain date, the program may be cancelled. Registering on the day of the program will not save the class. Please register early!

To Err is Human

Although the Recreation Department staff work hard to ensure each program's information is free from errors, there are times when errors in dates, times, rates, or registration information do occur. We will do everything possible to correct such errors, and we thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

Volunteers & Part-Time Employees Wanted

The Recreation Department is always looking for help with programs, general projects, or for special events. Let us know what you can help out with. A list will be maintained at Civic Center when we are in need. Call, email or stop by to be added to that list. We are also hiring a person to help run our open gym and men's basketball league. Look for our advertisement in the local paper.

3. No confirmation will be sent back unless requested. A self addressed stamped envelope is required if confirmation is needed. If a class is filled, the Recreation Department will call with the second date and see if you are available for that class.

5. Class may be cancelled by the student. This can be done up to 48 hours before the class occurs. Students will get their money back except for a 15% administration fee. After 48 hours before the class, the money collected from the students is not available for refund. Please remember that to register for classes you must pay for the class in full.
