Waste Disposal and Recycling

 

 

Special News: Spring Cleanup 2008!

Who:      City Of Washburn Residents

When:    Saturday April 26, 2008   7:00 A.M. To 2:00 P.M.

Where:   First Ave. East, one block south of Bayfield Street

What:    The dumpsters are available for the Citizens of Washburn only. Citizens will be able to get rid of all types of waste EXCEPT: Food waste and hazardous materials, including paint or paint cans.

There will be no charge for refuse disposal, except for the following:

Tires:

  • Car and light truck            $   3.00

  • Semi                               $ 12.00

  • Tractor or Grader              $ 30.00

Small Appliances:             $ 8.00

Large Appliances and appliances with Freon, such as:

  • Refrigerators

  • Freezers

  • Air Conditioners

  • Dehumidifiers                        $12.00

Batteries:          Will be accepted at no charge

This year all scrap metal and iron will be accepted at no charge. There will be a separate trailer provided for this material.  

 

 

 

General

New Customers: call City Hall at 373-6160 to initiate service.

Garbage pickup takes place each Monday, early.

Please place bags in alley or at curbside; watch your neighbors to see where collection occurs on your block.

If you are disposing more than one bag, all bags after the first must display a yellow City of Washburn garbage sticker, available at the Washburn IGA for $0.50 each. The first bag does not need a sticker.

Bills for refuse and recycling collection are issued quarterly. The Charge is $11/month and is combined with your water & sewer bill if you have that service.

 

Unacceptable Items

You may not discard these items at the curb:

  • yard and garden waste
  • lead acid (car) batteries
  • motor oil
  • automobile tires
  • furniture and television sets
  • major appliances: washer, dryer, oven, furnace, water heater or other "white goods"
  • gravel, concrete, construction or demolition waste
  • large vehicle parts
  • explosives or ammunition
  • human or animal waste
  • dead animals
  • chemicals
  • large quantities of paint
  • hazardous or toxic waste materials
  • flammable liquids
  • hot ashes

Recycling Program

Recyclable materials are picked up every other Monday: half the city one week, the other half the next. For 2008, Monday, January 7 will be recycle pickup day for the west side of town, January 14 for the east side, and so on.

Watch your neighbors ifyou're unsure when your turn comes.

Bins are available at City Hall for $8.50 deposit.

    (Must be Rinsed & Caps Removed)

  • Light Bulbs

  • Mirror Glass

  • Drinking Glasses

  • Ovenware

  • Crystal

  • Blue tinted Glass

Plastic

Acceptable

  • Pop Bottles- Symbol # 1

  • Milk Jugs- Symbol #2

  • Detergent Jugs-Symbol # 2

Must be Rinsed & Caps Removed

  • Any Other Plastics

Brown Glass

Acceptable

  • Beverage Bottles

  • Brown Liquor Bottles

Must be Rinsed & Caps Removed
