WCAT
- Washburn Community Access Television
Washburn Community Access Television, Inc.
is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation established to provide
locally produced programming, including broadcasts of community
events, activities of the Chamber of Commerce, local sports
programming, public meetings, and a community bulletin board
of local events.
WCAT was conceived in the summer of 2002 by residents of
the City of Washburn and was given impetus when the Washburn
Common Council directed that a provision of its cable television
franchise agreement with Charter Communications be enforced.
The Community Bulletin Board service of WCAT is currently
broadcast on cable Channel 7 of the Washburn cable television
system with an evening schedule of programming planned for
the near future.
While currently operating on a shoestring of spare electronic
equipment, limited space and borrowed expertise, the vision
and dream of WCAT is to provide a fully equipped and operational
television studio with volunteers trained in digital video
production to aid area residents in the creation of programs
of community interest.
